Procedure

This task can be modified to lead in to any topic. For this example, after this particular lead in, a text about the life of Mark Zuckerberg (Head of Facebook) would be used.

 

1.

Prepare an image of Mark Zuckerberg and put it on the IWB -

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ask learners -

  • Who is this a picture of?

  • What do you know about him?

2.

Tell each learner to write 5 questions about Mark Zuckerberg that they would like to know the answers to. They should write clearly so that other people can read them! Monitor and help with question forms and word choice.

3.

Learners swop their questions with a partner. The partner should use the internet on their cell phone to find at least three of the answers and write them down. Set a time limit, e.g. 5 minutes.

4.

The learners report their answers to their partners.

5.

Ask each pair the following questions-

  • What was the most interesting piece of information you found?

  • Where did you look for the information? Which sites?

  • Which questions did you not answer? Why? (Were the answers not available online? Were they unclear?  Did you run out of time?
