Hello!

I’m Catherine Hallam, a business English trainer and general English teacher who, after many years teaching in Europe, finds herself working in an international language school in San Francisco.

As San Francisco is just around the corner from Silicon Valley, the home of many well-known (and lesser known) tech companies, I am constantly hearing about new technologies that claim to make our lives easier. The way we communicate has been revolutionised and smartphone ownership rates are the highest they have ever been. These smartphones are used for everything from sending messages to booking flights. This has got me thinking about how we, as teachers, can innovate in the classroom and use such new technologies to help our students learn.

The aim of BYODEnglish is to help ESL/EFL teachers who work with (young) adult learners of a pre-intermediate level and above to integrate a BYOD learning model into their classrooms in a principled way.
